I can’t stand Twitch humor and emotes, and they are like 50% of the conversations of every guild I’ve been in recently. My unwillingness to “bant” with people on voice chat into the early hours of the morning about twitch humour So I tend to stick to communities because at the very least they seem to have a more casual attitude towards play and don’t seem to have such strict rostering or expectations over participation, rather if you’re online and participate in the game, people group with you on that basis and for those who have a desire to chat on discord etc and bond more deeply, they can do that. When I do have time to myself, i’d rather use it to actually play the game rather than keep track of discord conversations on my phone/another tab, yet it seems like doing this is required to follow many guilds these days. I work a lot and have kids outside of that, I don’t have time to sit on discord for hours just chatting with people. It totally get why, people tend to prefer those they bond with more regularly, I just find it a tad frustrating that even the guilds that aren’t advertised as “just a social guild” tend to end up working along the lines of social guilds where participation in the memeing, voice chats and being “on” discord is seen as super important to your overall participation. My unwillingness to “bant” with people on voice chat into the early hours of the morning about twitch humour (which I don’t personally get) when I have a super early rise shouldn’t be something that comes against me, but it appears it is. If a guild is for raiding or pvp, it should be largely irrelevant regarding this stuff outside of my ability to communicate about these things and my plans for them. This said I don’t feel the need to chat with these people outside of the game, or to share portions of my personal life with them, and I don’t understand why this is such a requirement for some. I’m very similar which is why I don’t really do guilds in WoW anymore, along with discord there seems to be this weird insistence that you become “buudy buddies” with people else you’re out in the cold.ĭon’t get me wrong, I am totally up for bants during a mount run, or asking if people wanna join X activity or talking about whatever raid we have coming up. It was even much better in Cata with guild perks and cesspool guilds, at least then most of them were actively chatting. I don’t need a separate group of friends that I’m never gonna see living half a world away, but it doesn’t mean that guild chats should be barren wastelands and that you can’t have random conversations and bants. Feels like half of the reason guilds exist today is for people to spam memes and sit on voice talk channels all day. I’m using Discord and other chat apps with my rl friends all the time but I don’t want to make friends with 10-30 new random people I play with in-game. I think that in general, over the recent expansions fewer and fewer people are actually in guilds, and those that are, are interested in either progression or the social side due to being lonely or whatever. Maybe it was the same with TS before but it was never this bad in my experience.
